  • NEW PICS OF MYA WITH KEVIN RICHARDSON OF THE BACKSTREET BOYS !

You know how pop stars are--they all stick together. It's no wonder then that a flurry of Billboard babies have been hanging around the stage door of the Ambassador Theatre. After all, one of their own--Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson--is playing Billy Flynn in the hit revival of Chicago. We recently caught up with Ricky Martin and Mya (who plays a Cell Block girl in the Oscar-nominated film version of the show) on separate nights sending their love out to Richardson. Album: "Power in Numbers"
    Song: "Thin Line"

    (Chali 2na)
Yo, this is a lesson in friendship
    The depths of a kinship
What women and men begin with, and then slip
    My pen drips
As I scribble my thoughts on thin strips
    Of emotion
    A fraction, seduction, attraction
    Eruption of passion
Corrupts if a lasted friendship's involved
But love to cross the line
But that's why we built these walls

    (Hook: Mya)
We been friends for a long time, a very close friend of mine
Love you like you was mine, but respect a thin line
I love you like you was mine, think about you all the time
Very close friend of mine, but respect a thin line

    (Akil)
    Opposite's attract
When the female and male come in contact
    Sticky situation in fact
Tryin not to let the feelings catch
But there's a thin line between both of y'all
    So you respect that
And entertain the idea, but get brought back
To reality, and could you really live with that?
    Decision, based on intuition
You love and keep your distance
    Hug and kiss in friendship

    (Marc 7)
An ongoing kinship, we was people to begin with
    Disrespect was not intended
but your feelings sparked the sentence
Sometimes you're too intense in your quest to invent
The perfect man, please understand, my rhyme is your repent

    (Hook) - repeat 2X

    (Soup)
Man, too bad that we became friends first
I'm not on expert on how relationships should work
But, (echos) from the minute it as known
It changed the whole tone on how we spoke on the phone
Yo, it was cool but I felt it wasn't enough
And I was stuck when your moms would pick it up
Over you, all my buddies would swoon
But I felt we were in tune, you let me up in your room. (Damn)
But to me girl, you're still off limits
No matter all the times that I hinted (Yo, whatchu doin after this?)
Infactuation was authentic, but yo I just pretended
So I wouldn't lose the friendship
Maybe, I should spill all my guts
Or write a letter, then tear it up
Or do a song, just to say what's up
    I want ... just ... a touch

    (Hook) - repeat 2X

    (Mya)
    I can't do this anymore
See my heart just spills out when you walk in the door
Friendship turns into lust and this only tip
That I can't comprehend even if I knew it
Can't do justice to these things that I'm feeling
You got someone else, don't wanna be caught stealing
Hell if she knew she would never leave us alone
    in the roo-ooo-ooom

    (Chali 2na)
This was a lesson in friendship
    I stress in this sentence
Should women and men be friends first?
    And then slip?
My pen drips as I scribble my thoughts on thin strips
    of devotion

    (Akil)
    Opposites attract
And best friends make a perfect match
    If you only knew that
Once you cross, ain't no turning back
The minute you let him in it and he hit that
    That's that

    (Marc 7)
We was people to begin with, but you was too relentless
    Jeporidizing kinship, respect is intended
    Resolve is my intent
    While we got it in
I'm tryin to salvage a friendship

    (Hook) - repeat 2X

Mya Makes Surprise Appearance At 'Tops In Taps'

  • Homegrown R&B star Mya Harrison wowed local fans Sunday night by showing up unannounced at Howard Community College's "Tops in Taps" show, a fundraiser for Oseh Shalom Synagogue in Laurel, and dancing her heart out. Harrison, a founding member of the Washington area's Tappers With Attitude Youth Ensemble, stuck around afterward to sign autographs.

  • Mya on BET's 106 And Park

Mya look great as usual. She wore this pink dress & some high-heels. She was talkin' 'bout her role in Chicago & her upcoming album which will be released this Summer with a single very soon by this Spring.

Mya was on the CBS Early Show on Monday, February 10, '03. She was talkin' 'bout her role in Chicago.

    Mya on TRL !

TRL: That's a hot joint there. Let's introduce our fst guest as a singer and actress known from hollywood to "chicago" now times square give it up, everybody for mya.
    [Cheering]

    TRL: Hey, how are you?

    [Cheering]

TRL: Yeah, welcome back. Wha'up? Want to show some people some love outside.

    Mya: Sure

    TRL: Holler real quick.

    Mya: Hey everyone out there!

    TRL: Goin' bananas for you.

Mya: It is so cold, too. Fans out there.

TRL: A while since we've seen you, i know you've been in and out of the studio workin' on

    [Inaudible] A couple years back.

Mya: In the studio workin' on my next do be released this summer with a single very soon this spring

    [Cheering]

    TRL: What can we expect?

Mya: My album is all over the place I had a playground and a ball. I'm workin' on it with jimmy jam and terry lewis right now wrapin' it up but 's funk, house music and reggae collaboration with sean paul and overall it's just hot music.

TRL: I hear on the album there are a couple tracks that are risque, that we don't normally hear from you.

    Mya: You know.

TRL: You are a sweet girl. What can we expect from the "bad mya".

Mya: It's been three years and I've grown up just a little bit and I've been through some thangs, i live my life and I'm in veryy honest and open and I did a lot of writing on my own. I think all the females in here and whoever buys my album can appreciate it

    [Inaudible]

TRL: Is there a drag queen track?

Mya: Yeah, there is. It's called, uhm, whatever pregnant dog but it's off the hook for all my queens out there, okay

    TRL: All right.

TRL: It is droppin' this summer I'm sure a video comin' out. What's it going to be like.

Mya: We are actually thinkin' about going to an exotic land and shooting it but I'm not sure just yet, so ....

TRL: Lookin' forward to that. Yo gs we have to take a quick break but she's not going anywhere giving us the lowdown on her movie career plus the trl 50 cent clock tickin' away. Don't go anywhere!

    [Cheering]

TRL: La hangin' out with the good folks in times square trying to find the biggest 50 cent fan.

TRL: Mya, so much of the success of "chicago" people talked about this movie months before it even came out. How did it feel -- was it stressful to be part of such a big event movie?

Mya: You know what the audition process was really strange for me they asked me to improvise and learn a dance piece within and hour but i was dancin' since i was about 3 years old i guess that condition prepared me. I was really nervous when i finally got into rehearsals with katherine, richard and queen latifa, you never think of that going into the situation but it was really educational and I had a good time, you know. So it was all good.

TRL: [Inaudible] Is a husband murderin', jailhouse mama, seems like a stretch.

Mya: I'm pretty sure people wouldn't expect me to take on a role like that but it was really fun once again with whatever I was going through with my life. I play a murderous very short but brief and ladies, this is the movie for you if you are mad at your man so check it out.

TRL: I played the russian once and man when these get together and sing it is absolutely ridiculous. The movies has won three golden globes. Did you go.

Mya: I didn't but nominated for a few sag awards and 12 bafta awards, which is equivalent to the U.S. Oscars which are also coming out.

TRL: Nominations like next week are you on the invite list.

Mya: I'm not sure what they are nominated for but of course ft. Cast and movie is nominated I hope to go.

    TRL: What will you wear.

Mya: I don't know. I don't know until like the day before ha-ha.

    TRL: Nice.

TRL: You've been talkin' about being so grown up now. What made you get so grown up.

Mya: Time, you know. Time and, you know, guys, uhhh.

    TRL: Uh-oh. Anything specific.

Mya: I'm not gonna talk about that y'all can get my album.

TRL: How about valentine's day it it be good.

Mya: I don't even know what I'll be doing.

TRL: Mya, I'm free. For real.

TRL: Thank you so much for comin' out.

Mya: Thank you for having me. Good to be here again.

  • Musiq's version of "Real Compared To What"

  • Mya Where you've seen her:
Since releasing her debut album in 1998, Mya has morphed from sweet to supersexy. She slipped into a corset for "Lady Marmalade" and even less in the movie musical Chicago.

    Mother of all turnoffs:
"When I did the "Lady Marmalade" video, it was strange because my mom was there, and I'm standing around with a whip in my hand and my crotch in the crowd's face. In fact, I'm pretty sure I would've gotten a little nastier and a little grittier if my mom hadn't been there. Which could've been why she was there."

    The bottom line:
"My outfit in Chicago was really skimpy. Let's just say every girl dancing had to get a Brazilian wax. I've done sexy stuff in my stage show, but I'm not used to my a** hanging out when I perform."

    The naked truth:
"There's no book on how to grow up; it's different for every woman, and you are ultimately going to have to live with the decisions you make. So at a certain point in my life I might be ready to be buck naked on the cover of a magazine."

Mya's interview on CBS' Early Show

Mya on CBS' The Early Show

    Transcript

Audiences may have been surprised at how well Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones And Richard Gere sing and dance in the hit musical Chicago. Perhaps less surprising are the talents of Mya, the Grammy-winning pop star who used the movie to make her leap to the big screen.

"I love to dance. I love to sing," says Mya to The Early Show. "I've been conditioned for it. I started dancing and singing actually when I was 3 years old, and I've been doing it ever since. Hey, what better movie to be a part of."

In the film, Mya plays Mona, one of the musical's merry murderesses, who perform the show-stopping number the "Cell Block Tango."

"We're all in jail, and we've had it up to here," Mya says of the scene. "We're fed up with our husbands, and we feel very justified in the crime we've committed, which is murder. What city in the United States better deals with murder and compassion and sympathy with celebrities than Chicago? And that's what the movie is about."

The intimidating part of the role was the dancing, Mya says. "I was so confident walking in with the singing. My monologue was so brief and so short - I had no problem with that. But dancing, but I had never been so intimidated as I was on the set of rehearsals. These were professional ballerinas from Russia. These were people that had also taken part in the play on Broadway and knew the show in and out, and I had never seen it before. They were very disciplined, and I had never experienced something that strenuously. So I was a little intimidated, but it was great to be around that professionalism, and I learned a lot from it," she says.

Chicago is not the first time Mya has contributed to a film's soundtrack. Her first hit single, "Ghetto Superstar," appeared in Warren Beatty's 1998 film Bulworth. And last year she won a Grammy, along with Christina Aguliera, Pink and Lil' Kim, for the No.1 smash "Lady Marmalade" from the "Moulin Rouge" soundtrack.

Mya says, "the collaboration was very different, very unique, but such a joy to do something different. It was also a transitional period for all of us during our careers and almost in a way prepared me for this role in Chicago. After the video dropped, I got a call from Miramax, and I held the audition probably a few weeks after we received our Grammy. It happened all at once, and it totally prepared me to step into a role like this."

Although Mya does plan on continuing her acting career, her top priority right now is finishing her third album, which will be released this summer.

    Mya's Bump in the Road

Homegrown R&B star Mya is practically everywhere these days: as a presenter on Monday night's televised American Music Awards, as a performer in the latest Coca-Cola commercial and tomorrow's ABC special "Disco Ball," as a singer and dancer in the new movie "Chicago" -- and, unfortunately, as the driver of a Range Rover that slammed into College Park resident Jane Hopkins's parked Volkswagen, totaling the smaller car and taking out part of a chain-link fence.

The accident happened around 1 p.m. the day after Christmas as 23-year-old Mya Marie Harrison was turning into the driveway of her mom Teresa Harrison's house in College Park. The 39-year-old Hopkins, a University of Maryland information technology employee, had left her 1995 Passat in the driveway next door, its rear end poking into the street, while she and her two sons played the board game Life with the children of the Harrisons' neighbor (who asked not to be identified).

"I was with the boys and we were having fun when there was this crashing sound outside," Hopkins told us yesterday. "At first I thought it was the wind -- it was a windy day -- and then I heard my car alarm." The crushed car was sitting on top of the downed fence, four feet from where Hopkins parked it. "I loved my Passat," she said. "I bought it used in 1997, with 12,000 miles on it, and I just finished paying it off. It had three brand-new tires on it."

Hopkins, who ended up collecting ,000 from her insurance company -- a fraction, she said, of the Passat's replacement cost -- told us that Mya seemed shaken. "She's a sweet girl and I don't want to embarrass her. She seemed like a nervous 24-year-old. She told me she had been spooked by another car. But I think she just may have put her foot on the gas pedal when she meant to apply the brake." The police report dutifully records the singer's explanation -- that "an impatient driver brushed [the] side of her vehicle as it was turning" -- but also notes: "There was no evidence of another impact."

Mya's manager, Carol Kirkendall, told us: "She was certainly very happy that no one was hurt and thank God we have insurance. . . . She has a good driving record, and she's very responsible." No speed was estimated in the accident report, so we'll leave it to some enterprising physics scholar to calculate for us the velocity necessary for a 5,000-pound Range Rover to push a 3,000-pound Passat a distance of four feet. We'll have to think up a prize for the cleverest answer.

Mya was on the Late Late Show w/ Craig Kilborn

Last night which was Tuesday, February 4, 2003 @ 12:00 a.m Mya was on The Late Night with Craig Kilborn. It was a good show, the host was actually pretty funny. Anyway Mya looked great as always, she wore a sexy thigh-length red dress, with gold high-heels and a gold magnolia in her hair. The host interviewed her for about 5-10 min, and they even showed her in a clip of Chicago! She talked about her involvement in Liza Minelli's wedding, her role in Chicago and litte more than that. Unfortunatley, she said that the album will be out this summer, with a single by this spring.

"Coca-Cola ... Real" Integrates Advertising, Music, Promotions, Properties And New Packaging and Graphics Marketing Platform to Launch in U.S. on American Music Awards Jan. 13

    ATLANTA, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
The Coca-Cola Company today announced a new marketing platform for brand Coca-Cola, which reflects genuine, authentic moments in life and the natural role the brand plays in them.

The platform "Coca-Cola ... Real" will be integrated across all of brand Coca-Cola's marketing initiatives and properties -- launching in the United States and rolling out in numerous markets around the world throughout 2003. Executions of the "Coca-Cola ... Real" platform will vary in different parts of the world to ensure local relevance and connection.

"Consumers today are telling us they want brands that are genuine, authentic and real," said Chris Lowe, Chief Marketing Officer, Coca-Cola North America. "And these are values they associate more strongly with Coca-Cola than any other brand. Authenticity, originality and 'real' refreshment are part of our heritage, and what the brand has always stood for.

"That's why 'real' is such relevant, natural turf for Coca-Cola," said Lowe. "This platform expresses those values in a contemporary way."

The integrated platform launch includes a new advertising campaign, strong music and digital components, promotions, properties, one-to-one marketing initiatives, and new packaging and graphics.

The advertising component of the "Coca-Cola ... Real" marketing platform features television, radio, print, online, cinema and outdoor executions. Television advertising will debut January 13 during the Coca-Cola-sponsored American Music Awards (AMA) on ABC.

The various spots, from a situation illustrating the real joys of having a roommate to a slightly embarrassing moment for a well-known actress, all capture moments in which "being real" and the real refreshment of Coca-Cola come together.

"These ads convey what consumers told us it means to 'be real' -- being true to yourself, plugging in to life and connecting with others, with a natural optimism," said Esther Lee, Chief Creative Officer, Coca-Cola North America. "Creatively, the upbeat tone of the campaign reflects the heart, fun and desire that are core characteristics of Coca-Cola."

Coca-Cola's new visual identity is integrated throughout the campaign. Each spot features the use of the contemporized Dynamic Ribbon, the authentic Coca-Cola Spencerian script, and the power and passion of Coca-Cola red.

"Coca-Cola ... Real" ads include appearances by R&B singer Mya and hip- hop artist Common; actors Penelope Cruz, Courtney Cox Arquette and David Arquette; late night talk-show host Craig Kilborn; boxing great Muhammad Ali; world-class cyclist Lance Armstrong; and members of the Coca-Cola NASCAR Racing Family, including Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart.

"It was important for us to involve celebrities who are genuine, who really connect with others and, most importantly, are comfortable with being themselves," said Lee. "The spots feature them in real situations, enjoying life and Coca-Cola in their own unique and personal way."

More than a dozen television ads, and multiple print and radio executions are scheduled to appear during the first quarter of 2003, including African- American and Hispanic-focused spots, as well as ads tailored to support Coca-Cola's sponsorship of NASCAR and the NCAA properties.

Music plays a prominent role in the new campaign. "Young people are passionate about music, and we're keeping it 'real' by featuring music that is artistically credible," said Lee.

The launch music featured in the campaign includes Mya and Common collaborating to perform the signature music "Real Compared To What," based on the 1960s jazz song "Compared To What." The new music, with lyrics by Common, will make its online debut today on www.Cokemusic.com. An extended version of the song will be included on Mya's upcoming album.

"Real" also will be integrated throughout the Company's partnership with the AMA, which includes sponsorship of the AMA Radio Network -- a network of stations in nearly 20 major markets -- and the Coca-Cola New Music Award, a competition that features up-and-coming bands and artists. The New Music Award winner will perform -- after being introduced by Mya and Common -- on the January 13 AMA telecast. The performance will be immediately followed by the network broadcast debut of the 90-second version of the Mya and Common "Real Compared To What" commercial.

Additionally, in collaboration with Universal Music Group (UMG), Coca-Cola will bring some of the best new music to the radio airwaves through a program called "Coke FM." The 60-second radio spots will feature a variety of music performed by UMG artists and will be "hosted" by prominent personalities in the music business, such as La-La, host of MTV's Direct Effect; Abby Gennet of MTV2's Rock Countdown; and Katie Cook, co-host of CMT's Most Wanted Live.

Coca-Cola's online marketing is headlined by an MSN homepage redesign with Coca-Cola colors and background, and weeklong, exclusive behind-the-scenes clips of the new campaign and advertising locations on AOL and MTV.com.

The "Coca-Cola ... Real" general-market advertising for North America was produced through a collaborative effort between WPP's Berlin Cameron and IPG's McCann-Erickson. Burrell Communications Group created the African-American advertising and Lapiz produced the Hispanic creative.

The Coca-Cola Company is the world's largest beverage company and is the leading producer and marketer of soft drinks. Along with Coca-Cola, recognized as the world's best-known brand, the Company markets four of the world's top five soft drink brands, including diet Coke, Fanta and Sprite. Through the world's largest distribution system, consumers in nearly 200 countries enjoy the Company's products at a rate of more than 1 billion servings each day.

  • "Real Compared To What" (Short Version) by Mya & Common

    (Mya)
    Real real real yeah
    Let's make it really real

    (Trumpet)

    (Mya)
Try to make it real compared to what
    Try to make it real
    Sock it to me now

    (Common)
They say money make a man strange
Is it money or he don't understand change ?
Funny to be real we campaign
If it's you then just do your thang thang
Maintain who we are as the game change
Everybody wanna star it's the same game
I ain't travel this far to do the same thang
It's a trip how the real now is mainstream.
    That's what's up !

    (Mya)
Try to make it real compared to what
Try to make it real (Oh)

    (Common)
The real can't be bought or sold, taught or told
The boy tried to keep it but he lost his soul
On the road to riches but he lost control
'bout the eye of the needle I was often told
If you stand for nothing, you'll fall for the gold
In ya actions all is told (oh)
You in the game, gotta have ball control
You see fame is all a role
Through lights, action, carpet and camera snappin'
Pop life, is it a demand for passion?
Are we really real or are we actin'?
Where do the fake smiles and masks end?
    Rationalize,

    (Common)
If it's real to then it's real to me
How can one judge what I feel in me
In a material world of fallacy
The realest thing I found in me
    That's what up !

    (Mya)
Try to make it real compared to what
    Try to make it real

    (Common)

No matter how much fun you're having, how busy you are or how important your job is, family should always come first. "I'm a mamma's boy," proclaimed Elliott. "She's the one that wiped my a-- when I messed up and the first to congratulate me when I have had success."

Elliott hopes for a September 2003 release for the three-volume set, which will feature 40 of Warwick's songs performed by her and a cavalcade of stars, including Mya (see "Mya Gets Real With Missy, Timbaland And Damon Elliott"), Destiny's Child, Faith Evans, Pink, Elton John and Gladys Knight.

The box will celebrate Warwick's 40 years in the business and was partially inspired by a similar duet album released by Frank Sinatra that included U2's Bono, Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin and others.

"That Sinatra record was crazy," Elliott said. "So I want to do something like that. My mom is a living legend, so I said, 'Mom, let's go. I'm in the position where I can get any artist. Let me make a couple of phone calls and let's make this happen.' "

So far, Elliott has locked in Knight for "I Never Felt This Way," Mya for "Close to You," and new artist Keisha Cole for "I'll Never Love This Way Again." The other acts are still deciding on their tracks and Elliott is still looking for others to contribute.

Regardless of how successful the set winds up being, for Elliott it's a labor of love and a way to give back to the woman who inspired him to reach the heights he's scaled.

"I credit her with everything," he said. "She had me in the studio with Quincy Jones when I was a kid. She had me in the studio with Burt Bacharach and Clive Davis, all these producers and engineers. Of course, if I wasn't around those influences I probably would be doing the same thing, but probably not on the same level."

Mya Gets Real With Missy, Timbaland And Damon Elliott

    10.31.2002

On Tuesday, Mya was in a Los Angeles studio with producer Damon Elliott working on a song called "People Change." It's not the catchiest or most representative cut she's ever done, but the title sums up the tone of her next album.

The still-untitled disc, due February 25, reveals the 22-year-old singer transforming from an innocent young woman into a liberal, self-assured adult, exposing her in a more intimate light. Unlike Fear of Flying (2000), which addressed somewhat superficial relationship issues, the new stuff is real and personal, largely because Mya's writing her own lyrics this time, said Elliott, who produced six songs on the disc.

"It's like when Pink stepped out with her second record," he explained. "She got to express herself a little more than she did on her first album. Mya's grown up, and the things she's talking about deal more with real issues. It's not like someone coming in with a song that's already written, where the lyrics and music are from another person's perspective. We co-wrote the stuff that we did. So it's more from her."

Like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera, Mya is dealing with more provocative subject matter these days. For example, one of two songs produced by Christopher "Tricky" Stewart is about fiery relationships on the road.

"She's like, 'I'm in town for the night,' and she's got this guy that lives wherever she [happens to be that night], because Mya travels. So she's like, 'I'm in town tonight, let's get it on.' You don't expect to hear that from Mya."

Elliott said Mya's lyrical development isn't a shock tactic or an effort to keep up with her racy peers ƒ’†ג€™ƒג€ ¢€ג„¢ƒ’¢€ ƒ¢‚€¢ג€ž¢ƒ’†ג€™ƒ¢‚€‚ ƒ’‚¢ƒ¢¢€‚¬ƒ¢¢€ž‚¢ƒ’†ג€™ƒג€ ¢€ג„¢ƒ’‚¢ƒ¢¢€‚¬ƒג€¦‚ƒ’†ג€™ƒ¢‚€…ƒ’¢€ƒג€š‚¢ƒ’†ג€™ƒג€ ¢€ג„¢ƒ’¢€ ƒ¢‚€¢ג€ž¢ƒ’†ג€™ƒג€š‚¢ƒ’‚¢ƒ¢‚€…ƒג€š‚¬ƒ’¢€¦ƒג€š‚ƒ’†ג€™ƒג€ ¢€ג„¢ƒ’‚¢ƒ¢¢€‚¬ƒג€¦‚ƒ’†ג€™ƒ¢‚€…ƒ’‚¢ƒ¢‚€…ƒג€š‚¬ƒ’†ג€™ƒג€ ¢€ג„¢ƒ’¢€ ƒ¢‚€¢ג€ž¢ƒ’†ג€™ƒ¢‚€…ƒ’¢€ƒג€š‚¢ƒ’†ג€™ƒג€ ¢€ג„¢ƒ’‚¢ƒ¢¢€‚¬ƒג€¦‚ƒ’†ג€™ƒ¢‚€…ƒ’‚¢ƒ¢‚€…ƒג€š‚¬ƒ’†ג€™ƒג€ ¢€ג„¢ƒ’‚¢ƒ¢¢€‚¬ƒג€¦‚ƒ’†ג€™ƒ¢‚€…ƒ’¢€ƒג€š‚ it's more a sign of her own maturation and her interest in being honest and open.

"It's the natural progression," Elliott said. "We're all growing up. I mean, your first album usually is kind of kiddie because you're usually pretty young. But Mya's not this little girl anymore who's just piggybacking off of other people. She's grown up, and she wants to talk about what she goes through every day with guys."

The first single from the record will likely be "Get Up," Elliott said. "It's a real uptempo song I did and it's got a party club vibe. It's the kind of song you'll hear at a basketball game when it's time to pump the crowd up."

In addition to the six Elliott productions and the songs by Tricky, Mya's album will feature at least one song produced by Timbaland and one by Missy Elliott.

"The Missy song is very Missy," laughed Elliott. "She wrote it, so it's got a lot of her influence."

Other songs on the album include "Come," which Elliott describes as a "flirty, teasing" song, and "Take a Picture, which he originally wrote for Pink's last album. "What happened was there was such an overflow of songs, so a lot of songs didn't make the cut because she wanted the record to have a certain flow. It just so happened that this song flowed perfectly with Mya's record, so we cut it for Mya."

Unlike Fear of Flying, which included guest spots by Jadakiss, Beenie Man and the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, the new Mya album probably won't feature any collaborations.

"Mya can stand on her own," Elliott said. "Her album is gonna be off the chain. It's gonna be off the hook, man."

They don't have a title yet for the song, which will likely appear in the end credits of the ensemble film (see "Janet Jackson To Appear On LP With Mya ... And Richard Gere"), but Jam said they are well into a tune that is "hot and danceable."

"If you think about some of the sounds and videos that she's done, like the 'Alright' video with the zoot suit thing, or any of that, she's a girl that grew up on musicals," Jam explained from his Minneapolis studio on Monday. "It's important that we try to marry those types of things."

Before being curtailed by the "Chicago" song, Jackson was working on tracks for her next album with Jam and Lewis and even completed one song, tentatively titled "Truly in Love."

"It's a very straightforward love song," Jam said. "The thing we said about it when we did it was that it could have been on any of her albums. There's nothing trendy about it. It's a very simple love song with few instruments and finger snaps and a lot of harmonies. It's very reminiscent of her style over the years."

Jam said not to read too much into the timeless tune, however, as the album could break out into any direction.

"In the case of Velvet Rope, that concept was a little pre-planned, but on Rhythm Nation, Control, Janet and All for You the general concept took shape after the album was being done. However, what she's feeling at the middle time of the album is usually what the album ends up being."

Jam and Lewis, who are celebrating 20 years of working together this year, have also been busy in the studio with other ladies. They produced two tracks for Deborah Cox's new album, including the single "Up and Down," and handled tracks for newcomer Heather Headley's This Is Who I Am.

"She comes from Broadway, so her delivery is a whole different type of vibe," Jam said.

Jam and Lewis also have three tracks on Mariah Carey's upcoming album, including the first single, "Through the Rain," and a collaboration with Justin Timberlake (see "Jay-Z, Timberlake, Cam'ron Contribute To Mariah Carey LP").

Contrary to past reports, one album they have not worked on is Whitney Houston's. Jam says they are ready, though, if the call comes.

"We are 100 percent committed to doing something wonderful with her," Jam said. "If there's one thing I've learned over the years about [Arista Records chief] L.A. Reid, it's that he will not release anything before it is done. We learned from the Usher record, which was supposedly done. Then, next thing we know, we were in the studio with him doing five songs."

Jam and Lewis have one other big project in the can. They produced the music for the new holiday Gap commercials, which will hit TVs in mid-November. Jam wouldn't reveal what music they remixed, but said to expect something fun.

In conjunction with the big-screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical "Chicago" hitting theaters Christmas Day, a soundtrack from the film featuring a Jackson track will be released November 26.

Jackson is writing and recording the song next week with longtime producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, according to her manager. A spokesperson for Miramax Films said her track would likely be used in the end credits and will be the only song on the soundtrack not featured in the film and sung by cast members.

Along with Gere, Zeta-Jones, Zellweger, Latifah and Mya (see "Mya To Take Role In 'Chicago' Movie" ), the film's ensemble cast includes John C. Reilly ("The Perfect Storm") Taye Diggs ("The Best Man") and Lucy Liu ("Charlie's Angels").

The film version of "Chicago," directed by Rob Marshall ("Annie"), will stay true to the Broadway hit's story, which centers on a lawyer (Gere) defending a wannabe celebrity (Zellweger) and the real thing (Zeta-Jones).

Jackson, who guests on Beenie Man's current hit "Feel It Boy," also lent her sultry voice to another highly anticipated fall release, Justin Timberlake's Justified, due November 5 (see "Timberlake, Janet Jackson Make Sexy Pair On Justified").

She found out some things about her husband that kind of ticked her off."

In real life the 22-year-old is a little peeved that some people still see her as a kid, but she said she's going to show her maturity on her forthcoming LP.

"I've grown up and gone through some things, so I'm expressing what I feel," explained Mya, who walked away with a Grammy for her part on "Lady Marmalade." "I'm a little bit more open than usual, and I've lived a life. I've had a career where I can live a comfortable life. I'm not Britney Spears, so I still have a life. I can go certain places without getting hounded by little 5-year-olds. So I'm very sane as a person. I've gone through relationships, gone through the normal things that a normal person would go through."

Mya said that despite the edginess of her project, people shouldn't be too shocked by her free-spirited wordplay and music. "It's well balanced," she proclaimed. "I'm not saying, 'F--- you, kiss my ass.' I'm not cursing all over my album, but it's real. I know lots of females that can appreciate where I'm coming from, and men too."

Even men who dress up like women. "I have song called 'Whatever Bitch.' It's strictly for the drag queens. I just like to sit and watch [them]. My dancers introduced me to that world a long time ago. I incorporated some of it in my show, the dancing and the voguing. It's art."

Missy Elliott may appear on the track, and that isn't the only "Moulin Rouge" reunion Mya has planned for her still-untitled third album. "Lady Marmalade" producer Rockwilder supplied tracks, and Pink lent her pen to the project.

"[Pink] wrote a song called 'Take a Picture.' [It's about] just what it says. 'Take a picture so I can remember this moment forever.' It's almost like a graduation or wedding song. You can sing it anywhere. It's a really nice song."

Mya also experimented in the studio, recording a ladies' anthem titled "Unless My Period's Late," a Caribbean-flavored duet with Sean Paul called "Things Come and Go" and covering the 1983 Rick James song "Cold Blooded."

"I got another song called 'Look So Good,' " Mya said. "That's one of my favorites. It's about a guy that you're with simply because damn, he looks so freakin' good. It's a horrible relationship, it's not healthy for you, and you're asking him, 'Why you gotta look so good? You make it so hard to leave. I don't want anyone else to have you, and you're never gonna treat me right.' So I'm pretty sure a man could relate to that."

Mya's scheduled to work with Dr. Dre this month on one of the LP's final cuts. The singer, who's in talks to appear on the next Santana album, said her first single will be out in September, followed by the album in November or December.
